My Last Valentine

The first time Emma met Daniel, it was winter. Snowflakes drifted lazily through the air, settling in her hair as she stood outside the bookstore, fumbling with her scarf. He had smiled at her, his breath visible in the cold air, and without a word, offered her his gloves. That was how it started—a quiet kindness that grew into something neither of them expected.

For years, they built a love that felt unshakable. Sunday mornings were spent in cafés, sipping coffee and stealing kisses between pages of their favorite novels. Summers meant road trips with the windows down, her laughter blending with his favorite songs. They promised each other forever in whispered confessions beneath the stars.

But forever is a fragile thing.

It started with a cough, subtle at first, then persistent. Then came the hospital visits, the sleepless nights, the quiet agony of watching someone you love slip through your fingers. The doctors had solemn faces, offering words she didn’t want to hear. Daniel was sick—terminally so. The future they had dreamed of, the places they had planned to visit, the years they had counted on—they were all being stolen, one breath at a time.

On their last Valentine’s Day together, Emma sat by his bedside, holding his frail hand in hers. The hospital room smelled of antiseptic and fading hope, but she refused to let go.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered, his voice weak but full of love.

She shook her head, pressing a kiss to his fingertips. “You have nothing to be sorry for.”

He smiled—soft, tired, but still the smile she had fallen in love with. “I wanted forever with you.

”Tears slipped down her cheeks as she rested her forehead against his. “You are my forever.”

That night, as the world outside continued to move, as lovers exchanged gifts and whispered sweet nothings, Emma sat in the stillness, holding onto the memory of the man who had loved her beyond time itself.

Some love stories don’t get a happy ending. But that doesn’t make them any less beautiful. And time is the fire in which we all burn , use it wisely while you still can as we have no control with whats around the corner.
